It is with great sadness that we record the passing of John Gaston, President of Kidderminster Choral Society, who passed away on Wednesday 7th May 2025, at the age of 87.
John had been a dedicated and much-loved member of the Society for over 66 years, lending his rich voice to the bass section and contributing wholeheartedly to the life and spirit of KCS. His long-standing commitment, musical talent and deep love for choral music have left an enduring legacy within our community.
John was appointed President of Kidderminster Choral Society over 25 years ago and throughout that time he brought not only a wealth of experience but also an unwavering dedication to the Society and its members. He was a vital presence on the committee, where his wisdom, generous spirit and good humour touched all who worked alongside him. His contribution as President was marked by integrity, warmth and a deep commitment to fostering the joy of choral singing.
In his final concert with KCS, John had the great joy of performing alongside his daughter, Caroline Lee, who is Chair of the Society, and his grandson, Dominic Lee, who featured as the tenor soloist. As a proud family man, this was a wonderful and memorable occasion for him — a truly fitting finale to his remarkable musical journey with us.
John was truly one of the best of men—a loyal friend, a passionate singer and a cornerstone of our choral family. His huge personality and warm, welcoming nature made him a beloved figure among generations of singers.
We mourn his passing deeply and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. John will be sorely missed, but his memory and contributions will forever remain part of the heart and soul of Kidderminster Choral Society.
With gratitude and remembrance
Kidderminster Choral Society
