The Elgar Sinfonia
For more than 25 years the Kidderminster Choral Society concerts have been accompanied by a group of professional musicians managed by Philip Head, who was a member of the city of Birmingham Symphony orchestra for more than forty years until July 2000. Many of the instrumentalists play regularly with the CBSO.
The orchestra has been called ‘The Elgar Sinfonia’ to link it with the Society’s former president. The Society much appreciated the support of Philip Head and all the various instrumentalists, whose music has been significantly enhanced the Choral Society’s performance in the past decades.

We have been linked with the TSC since 1989, through our two towns’ 60-year twinning arrangement. Every two years we visit them, or they visit us, for a long weekend of concentrated rehearsing and performing – we combine the choirs to perform works from the classical choral repertoire.
Individual members have also joined us for such occasions as our Singing Weekends in Shrewsbury or in Knighton – just as individual members of KCS have joined them and taken part in performances.

Holborne Brass Ensemble
The partnership with Holborne Brass Ensemble and Kidderminster Choral Society has been in place almost since the group’s inception and, in addition to the many concerts they have shared over the years, the Christmas Concert in Kidderminster Town Hall is now a well-established joint event.
Holborne Brass Ensemble is composed of freelance players based in the Midlands and was originally formed in 1985. The members of the ensemble have performed with many notable orchestras such as the English Philharmonic Orchestra, the English Symphony Orchestra, the CBSO and other ensembles such as the Black Dyke, Foden’s and Desford brass band.
The group’s distinctive style combines first-rate musicianship with versatility ensuring that it remains a popular choice for a wide variety of high quality performance events and concerts.
Whilst the group is essential a quintet, it regularly augments its personnel to meet the musical demands of individual concerts.
